My Story

Have you ever watched a sparrow hopping on the ground searching for a tiny morsel? I have always loved sparrows. They are small, round little birds who mind their own business, look for food and fly wherever they want. To me, it always seemed like the perfect life.

I am like the sparrow of the yarn world. I have tried nearly everything and with each new venture have wondered how I can turn it into a business and share what I have discovered. Having a very entrepreneurial mother and creative grandmother; I was doomed. I did manage to stay focused long enough to own a yarn shop for many years. A business partner kept me focused, but then I was on my own. It was during these years that I learned to spin yarn, felt and weave. My fiber art repertoire expanded greatly thus testing my limited ability to focus. It has been quite a challenge, but my ducks seem to have stopped wandering and are all in a row. Well, maybe like a row of kindergarteners on the first day of school, but it is progress.

Making yarn, is first and foremost, the thing that brings me the greatest joy. The ability to transform wool from a living animal into something that can be used for cloth making and artful pursuits, makes me so very happy. It is a satisfaction unlike any other in my life. I am inspired by nature and as I choose colors and textures, I have a story in mind. Whether it is something I have experienced or have been influenced by, there is no better storyteller than the natural world.

The next step, using the yarn, completes the process and finishes the story. My passion is creating beautiful yarn so that you can tell a story in whatever way you choose. As time goes on, I will write here about the stories in my head and how they translate to the yarn I spin. How appropriate is it the “spinning a yarn” is a metaphor for telling a story?

What story do you want to tell with the work of your hands? If you’ve never thought about yourself as an artist, I challenge you to reconsider. When you create something with your hands that never existed before, you are creating art. Give yourself permission to let your inner artist express themselves through everything you make.

Be a creator.

Honor who you are and the gifts you were given.

Tell your story.
